Ilkay Gundogan > Barcelona (Free)

Whilst it is hypocritical to believe the Saudi slicing of football pie is worse than the Premier League’s own financial dominance, we can breathe a sigh of relief here. Gundogan, a fantastic player, has gone to a club where he will be challenged and perform in the Champions League. This is better than Saudi option for both him and us, the spectator. Xavi will be hoping Gundogan, even at 32, can elevate them back amongst the elites – a level they have looked far from despite being La Liga champions.
Ruben Neves > Al-Hilal (45M)

On the other hand you have Ruben Neves. A player who, whilst no Gundogan, is good enough to play for a Champions League team and is only 26 years old. No one can begrudge anyone taking a huge wage increase – it’s a short career and few people become millionaires by accident. But we at The High Press have an inkling Ruben may live to regret this decision. The Saudi project may have legs but will it ever have the passion, the tradition of the European leagues? We have our doubts.
Justin Kluivert > AFC Bournemouth (£9.5M)

Justin, son of legendary Barcelona star Patrick, has moved to the South Coast as first signing under new manager Andoni Iraola. A versatile player, Kluivert can play on both wings or a as a second striker, an despite still only being 24 has played for a number of big European clubs including Ajax and Roma as well as spells on loan at RB Leipzig and Valencia. Iraola will have seen plenty of him whilst at Rayo Vallecano and will be confident he can bring out the best in him.
